[The Intern] 01 Ben's V.O. (01:10 ~ 02:52)

- Ben : Freud said, "love and work. Work and love. That's all there is." Well, I'm retired, and my wife is dead. As you can imagine, that's giving me some time on my hands. My wife's been gone for three-and-a-half years, and I miss her in every way. And, retirement? That is an ongoing, relentless effort in creativity.   At first, I admit, I enjoyed the novelty of it. sort of felt like I was playing hooky. I used all the miles I'd saved, and traveled the globe. The problem was no matter when I went, as soon as I got home, the nowhere-to-be thing hit me like a ton of bricks.   I  realized the key to this whole deal was to keep movin'. Get up, get out of the house and go somewhere, anywhere. Come rain or shine, I'm at my Startbucks by 7:15. (Two Male Execs : Excuse me. d'you mind if we join you here?)   Can't explain it, but It makes me feel part of something. How do I send the rest of my days? You name it. Golf, books, movies, pinochle, tried yoga, learned to cook, bought some plants, took classes in Mandarin. Believe me, I tried everything.   And then, of course, there are the funerals. So many more than I could imagine.   The only traveling I do these days is out to San Diego, to visit my son and his family. They are great. I love'em to pieces. But to be honest, I think I probably relied on them way more than I should.   Don't get me wrong. I'm not an unhappy person. Quite the contrary. I just know there's a hole in my life and I need to fill it, soon.

1. That's all there is (to it). = 그게 다야. 그게 전부야. You can't say anything more about it.

  = That's all about it.

2. As you can imagine,

   ex) I've tried everything. you name it. (진짜 다 해봤어. 아무거나 말해 봐. 너가 말하는 거 다 해봤을 걸?)

   ex) Rock, hiphop, classical... I've got everything. you name it. (이거이거이거이거 아무거나 말해봐. 다 있음.)

 

15. more than I could imagine / more than I expect / more than I thought (it would be/it was)

   ex) it's a lot harder than I thought it would be (생각했던 것 보다 훨씬 어렵네.)

   ex) it's not as easy as I thought it would be (생각보다 어려운데 이거?)

   ex) he's more handsome than I thought it was. (오 생각보다 잘 생겼는데?)

 

16. love someone to pieces = love someone very much, feel overwhelmed by lobe for that person.

 

17. to be honest = 솔직히 (말하면),

 

18. way more / a lot more = 훨씬 더 많이.

 

19. Don't get me wrong. = 오해하지마.

  = Don't misunderstand me
